Reflection

I joined Floaty Fighters in August of 2018 when I started rooming with my friend Jason Gertner. The game strays away from fighting game norms, and opts for full movement and projectile based fighting. Initially I joined as a character artist, but very quickly realized I struggled a lot creating and animating characters in pixel art. After my first attempt at creating a character flopped, I was determined to stay on the project and swapped over to UI. It was here I was able to flourish and started quickly at creating much needed UI for the game.

My process was very straight forward since we were working in a fixed pixel resolution, creating each screen's UI elements on its own document in Aseprite, then exporting the UI out and handing them off to the programmer for implementation.

As we started coming closer to our play testing events, we realized we very much needed a trailer. Since I had a decent amount of experience with video editing, I stepped up and became the team's video editor as well. I also got the chance to create my own original character for the game, Sotz. With her design, I wanted to create a character with a silhouette and a play style unique from the other 4 characters. I designed her moveset from scratch and created a couple of concepts before deciding on her final design. We launched Floaty Fighters on December 7th, 2019, and as of May 2nd 2020 development has wrapped up after releasing Sotz.
